Repair and diagnosis of BMW DME 7568842

The electronic control unit BMW DME 7568842 (MSD80- MSV80/ Siemens 5WK93608 is used in most BMW petrol engines (E60, E90, E87, X3, X5, etc.).
This module controls injection, ignition, mixture and overall engine operation.

One of the most common problems with this DME is errors:

  • 30BA / 12474 - Internal failure of injectors 1, 2, 3 or DME

  • 30BB / 12475 - Internal failure of injectors 4, 5, 6 or DME

These errors usually suggest a serious injector management problem and require professional intervention.

Error 30BA / 12474 - Problem in control of injectors 1, 2 and 3

This is one of the most common malfunctions with this type of DME.
The error means that the module is reporting an incorrect control, drift, or internal conflict in the channels controlling the first three injectors.

How does the problem feel?
  • strong vibrations

  • operation of "three cylinders"

  • acceleration bandwidths

  • power loss

  • "Check Engine" is on

  • emergency mode

What could be the reasons?
  • internal fault in DME

  • impaired control to injectors

  • overloading of control circuits

  • problems after a removed mass or tension drop

The error does NOT necessarily mean a faulty injector - often the problem is in the control from the module.

Error 30BB / 12475 - Problem in control of injectors 4, 5 and 6

This error is completely analogous to 30BA, but for the second block of injectors (4-6).

Symptoms:
  • loud engine vibration

  • uneven operation

  • smell of unburnt fuel

  • high cost

  • limited power

  • switching to emergency mode

Reasons:
  • internal problem in the DME unit

  • unstable voltage

  • injector group overload

  • poor connection between DME and engine

In most cases, replaced injectors or coils do not solve the problem because it comes from the control.

Why are these errors almost always associated with DME?

In this Siemens model, situations occur where the DME:

  • does not correctly distribute the control signal

  • does not feed the right pulses to the injectors

  • enters protective mode

  • reports internal deviation

For this reason, the problem often returns even after changing injectors or repairs to the installation.
